War-Time Bombing Of Pope’s Residence
(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON. June S. The United States House of Representatives voted today to pav the Vatican about £430.000 for the World War II bombing damage to Castel Gandolfo, \ the Pope's summer residence. Castel Gandolfo was damaged accidentally by bombs from United States planes on four different occasions during the Allied drive to clear German troops from Italy in 1944. The bombers were aiming at nearby military targets.
