COMPETITION FOR SILVER PLOUGH
TWO FINALISTS FROM NORTH CANTERBURY J. C. Brooker, of Hawarden, and M. Smith, of Kaikoura, will compete in the Atlantic silver plough finals at Papakaio next month. At Waiau on Friday, Brooker won the Amuri Young Farmers’ Club qualifying event, and J. E Edmonds was second. Smith won the qualifying event of the Kaikoura Young Farmers’ Club, with E. G. Latter second. At Kaikoura the judges were Messrs A. Amor (Rotherham), F. Forrester (Culverden), and J. Wyllie (Amberley). Results:—Atlantic silver plough (6): M L. Smith 58. 1; E. G. Latter, 57. 2; A. W. Wilson, 56, 3. Open longboard: L. L. Barnes (Kaikoura), 1; Ken Boughton (Rangiora High School), 2. Open hydraulic: N. Price (Blenheim), 1; F. Ribbons, 2. Special prizes: straightest ploughing, Ken Boughton; best finish, E. G. Latter; best ins and outs, M. L. Smith; best feering, E. G. Latter; youngest competitor, Ken Boughton: oldest competitor, L. L. Barnes; competitor from greatest distance. C. Corlett (Blenheim).
