Australian Wool Values

(Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 8. With strong general competition from Japan, the Continent, and Britain, values for all descriptions of Merino comeback and crossbreds ruled very firm on yesterday’s levels at the Sydney wool sales today. The offering was mainly average to good topmaking, many wools containing heavy burr. Crossbred prices included: 56's good 74? d: 46’s good average 60d. Prices on the first day of the ninth Adelaide sales today were firm on last week’s Geelong levels. Compared with Adelaide’s last sale, prices of fine quality Merino wools were from 5 to 7J per cent, dearer and fine crossbred wools were 2J per cent. up. Bradford, the Continent and local mills were the main buyers of the 16.527 bales sold.
