NEW FIRE ENGINE DELIVERED

SALE OF ANOTHER TO KAIAPOI A new Dennis fire engine, of the type on which the Christchurch Fire Board is standardising its vehicles, will be given acceptance tests on Thursday by an officer of the Fire Services Council. It should be commissioned within a fortnight. The Ford engine which it will replace will be sold to the Kaiapoi Fire Board. A deputation from Kaiapoi last evening asked the Fire Board to review its offer of the machine at £1555. It was stated that the Fire Services Council considered the price too high. Kaiapoi members said that their board had limited functe. but would act as a support to Christchurch brigades in an emergency. The engine would greatly improve the Kaiapoi brigade’s ability to cope with fires in such areas as Brooklands. The Christchurch board eventually agreed to a sale at £1355. The engine being replaced was a 1947 model which originally cost £3BOO and now had a book value of £1555, the Price at which it was first offered. The reduction was made in consideration of the help Kaiapoi could give in such areas as Belfast.
