Theft of Cargo.— Arthur Snaith, a donkeyman-greaser in the overseas ship Trelawny, was charged before Messrs A. B. P. Large and A. R. Day. Justices of the Peace, in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday with the theft of 99 tins of lambs’ tongues, valued at £l4 14s, the property of the Hains Shipping Company. He pleaded guilty, and was fined £lO. Snaith had been stopped on the railway crossing when coming from the ship on Saturday afternoon by Constable J. A. Gibson, said Sergeant T. Thomson. Sixteen tins of tongues were found in the bag which he was carrying. The other tins were found when a search was made of Snaith’s quarters. Snaith admitted taking the tins from No. 4 held when the ship was at Wellington.
