PARISH HALL AT ADDINGTON

OFFICIAL OPENING THIS MONTH The new St. Mary's Church parish hall in Church square, Addington, is nearing completion, and will be officially opened on Saturday, May 19 A building fund was set up in 1940. Money has been raised by church bazaars, donations, and bequests, and last year a grant and a loan were received from the Diocese of Christchurch. The hall will cost about £ 8000. Work on the construction of the hall was started last August. It has a kitchen and cloakroom, and has facilities for scouts, cubs, guides, brownies, well as many activities of the church There is a stage in the mam hall which is 1800 square feet in area and adjoining the hall is a small Sunday school room. The vicar of St. Mary’s (the Rev H. I. Hopkins) described the hall which is of double brick and brick veneer construction, as a “beautiful piece of workmanship.”
