POWER CYCLES

Sir, —I am not concerned with the safety of power cycles, but along with many others I am deeply disturbed by the atrocious noise emitted bv many of them. Owners of motor-cycles are fined in Court for not having efficient silencers. * yet I think their machines are far less a nuisance than power cycles. Traffic officers inform me that they are powerless to prevent the noise made by these latest abominations. Who, then, is the authority that can compel owners to cease this growing nuisance? Some can be heard a mile away, and my household is disturbed five a week at 4.30 a.m. by a shattering burst of noise. It is time a concerted effort was made to eliminate the sleep-disturbing racket, and the City Council should pass a special by-law to protect citizens from and deal with thoughtless and intolerant owners.—Yours, etc., NERVES. May 7, 1956.
