The weather forecast, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 27 hours after the time of issue, is:— Situation:— A complex depression covering the Tasman Sea is moving eastwards on to New Zealand. Forecast: - West Coast.—Moderate easterly winds; w’eather cloudy to overcast; periods of rain; mild temperatures. Outlook: unsettled. Nelson and Marlborough.—Northerly winds, freshening during the day; weather overcast and mild; rain at times; probably a period of continuous rain later. Outlook: unsettled. Canterbury.—Southerly winds predominating, moderate at first, but freshening later; weather cloudy and mild, with occasional rain at first; cooler weather, with periods of continuous rain later. Outlook: unsettled. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine but cloudy, with a light northeast wind. At midnight, light rain was falling, and there was an 11-knot south-west wind. The temperature was 54.3 degrees. The barometer, at 29.73 inches (1006.7 millibars), was rising steadily.
