BOXING
MOVE TO REDUCE ACCIDENTS DECISION BY COUNCIL OF N.Z. ASSOCIATION (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, March 27. Any amateur boxer who is knocked out may be barred from boxing for two months; and any boxer whose jaw is broken, will be suspended for life. These decisions are among many made by the New Zealand Boxing Council in a move to prevent fatal accidents in the New Zealand ring. The council has also ruled that boxers will be issued with medical cards that will keep a complete record of performances and injuries, and will be required to be carried by them to all tournaments. These directions have been issued by the council to provincial associations. At the annual meeting of the Southland Boxing Association last . night, delegates were told that the new regulations had been brought in to cut down to a minimum the risk of fatal injuries. The reforms also include suspension of a month for cuts in. the regions of the eyes or cheekbones which require stitches, and where the scars tend to be inherent, a spell of two months can be enforced. The medical record card will be issued to all boxers before the start of the present season, and to every person before he has his first bout.
