WAIMAIRI DRAINAGE

Although the Chief Engineer of the Christchurch Drainage Board (Mr E. F. Scott) believes that part of the Winters and Philpotts roads area is “most unsuitable for housing,” the Waimairi County Council has decided to recommend approval of subdivisions where land reaches certain levels. The Drainage Board was informed that three subdivisions had been approved on land below the safe level prescribed by Mr Scott. In certain circumstances, Mr Scott said, this low-lying land would always flood because it was in a basin. The board will discuss these and other problems at a meeting with members of the council, suggested by Waimairi.
