MARCHING
ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION’S CHAMPIONSHIPS
Twenty-eight teams from many parts of Canterbury competed in the Ashbur-: ton Marching Association’s championships at Ashburton on Saturday. Light rain in the morning made conditions for marching unpleasant, but in the after- i noon the weather improved. The marching throughout the cham-; pionships was not up to the standard seen at earlier championship meetings. A noticeable feature of the marching was the incorporation of movements seen at the recent New Zealand champion-; ships in teams’ displays. After the street, march, teams took; part in a march-past, the salute being taken by the Mayor of Ashburton <Mr E. C. Bathurst), who also presented trophies to successful teams at the conclusion of the meeting. Results were:— A Grade.—Champion team : Kiwi (Timaru). Champion leader: J. Roberts] (Kiwi). Display: Kiwi.
