TESTING STATION FOR WAIMAIRI

OPPOSITION BY CITY COUNCIL Adverse comment on a proposal by the Waimairi County Council to establish its own . vehicle testing station has been made by the traffic committee of the City Council in reply to a question .by the Commissioner of Transport. An agreement had already been entered into for the purchase of part of the land required in the vicinity of Cranford street and McFaddens road for a testing station to relieve seasonal congestion at the central station, reported the committee to the council last evening. ’^ le . attention of the Commissioner had been drawn to the fact that when the station in Lichfield street came into operation the council was appointed the sole authority for the issuing of warrants of fitness in the whole metropolitan area. It was on that assurance that the council erected and equipped the building. By avoiding the peak periods before the holiday seasons, motorists, said the report, could substantially reduce the delays occurring at those times and a more even flow of vehicles could be maintained throughout the year.
