HOME RULE IN TUNIS
New Proposals By France (Rec. 8 p.m.) PARIS. March 8. France made new conciliatory proposals in political talks in Paris with Tunisian delegates, French officials said today. The talks opened last week to expand a nine-month-old agreement which gave Tunisia home rule within the French Union, but left defence and foreign policy in French hands. The Tunisian delegation wants full sovereignty for Tunisia before any new tie of “interdependence” with France can be discussed. The delegation flatly turned down a French plan to give Tunisians some control over a national Army and diplomacy “within the framework of the home rule agreement,” French officials said. The officials said tonight that a new plan had been presented to the Tunisian delegation, which went some of the way towards meeting their demands.
