AMALGAMATION OF COUNTIES

GENERAL PRINCIPLE

APPROVED A combined meeting of the Paparua, Springs and Halswell County Councils decided this week that amalgamation w’as desirable from many aspects. The meeting resolved in favour of amalgamation and appointed a subcommittee consisting of chairmen and deputy chairmen of the three counties. The sub-committee will make more detailed investigations into aspects of amalgamation and report to a future combined meeting. The counties have not yet decided individually on amalgamation.
