ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION

LYTTELTON SUB CENTRE’S WORK Lyttelton ambulances carried 478 patients last year, compared with 466 for 1954. The total mileage was 11,586, that for 1954 being 11,735, according to the report presented at the annual meeting of the Lyttelton Sub-centre of the St. John Ambulance Association Members of the Lyttelton Ambulance Division and of the Nursing Division had carried out transport duties, also public duties, in which they were assisted by cadets. The first aid hut at Corsair Bay had been manned during the swimming season, and a large number of patients had been given first aid treatment. In December the Police Training School was transferred from Lyttelton to Trentham. During the three years the school was in Lyttelton, Mr H. G. Ablett, lay lecturer to the sub-centre, trained 321 constables in first aid. Only five failed to pass the examination, and of these, four subsequently passed elsewhere. Officers elected were:— Patron, Mr F. G. Briggs; president, Mr R. E. Cairns; vice-president, Mr F. Barrett; secretary, Mr W. Miller; treasurer, Mr W. Morris; auditor, Mr R. H. Duff; committee, Mesdames E. Driscoll, G. E. Boyd. R. Brumsden, J. Hughes, and L. Baines, and Misses F. Sneddon and N. Campbell; motor adviser, Mr D. Harper; honorary committee, Doctors P. A. M. Heath, N. D Walker, and N. Chambers.
