IMPORTS FROM AUSTRALIA
ITEMS ESSENTIAL TO DEVELOPMENT MR HOLLAND REPLIES TO QUESTION (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 9. The inquiry by the secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr A. R. Dellow) was a “perfectly proper one,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) this evening. “I will be glad to give the extra information on the new trade arrangement with Australia at the first opportunity,” he said. Mr Dellow had asked for further information on the imports side of the trade understanding reached by the Prime Minister when he was in Australia. “In the meantime,” said Mr Holland, “may I assure Mr Dellow that the self-balancing arrangement applies to the new and additional mutual trade which is to come about as a result of my talks in Australia. “It is planned that extra goods from Australia will be items which New Zealand has to import in any event, including plant and heavy machinery, which is essential to our development*,” the Prime Minister said.
