alan McGillivray ALAN McGILLIVRAY Motor Trader and Valuator 98 Oxford Terrace. ’Phone 62-309 “WATCH OUT FOR PITFALLS” Next to buying and furnishing a home, the greatest capital outlay the average person has to face, is buying a car As this can involve anything up to four to five years hard earned savings it is of the utmost importance that the money you have buvs the car you require. J Many people overlook a vital factor, which if not given careful and proper consideration at this early stage in buying can cause much worry and lamentation later on. The writer has repeatedly stated in this column that when buying you must avoid the first pitfall that confronts all purchasers at this stage, and that is BE SURE YOU BUY WHAT YOU REQUIRE, which is very often much different from what you want. Young people will be wise to remember that children grow quickly, or an addition to the family frequently means more room is needed, and this in turn will rule out of consideration the buying of a small car; people of middle age used always to a large car, will find a smaller one much more useful as with the family married off they are nearly always on their own so that a big car can become a nuisance where it was once an asset. This then is the first matter to be considered when buying a car. The next item is that of finance. Whatever capital is available, try to buy with something left in hand, i.e. do not spend all your money but endeavour to hold back at least five per cent, for spending on unexpected repairs. Even when buying a new car there is no guarantee that something will not go wrong and having that little extra put aside can prove very useful. To be continued. alan McGillivray requires more cars of all makes. CASH WAITING FOR GOOD CARS BUT THEY MUST BE GOOD Cars sold on behalf of owners, finance arranged and trades taken over on sales effected. “DRIVE IN AND CASH IN TODAY.” You may buy as good but you will not buy better than 54 Zephyr convertible 11,000 miles; submit your own price. 55 Ford Anglia, latest model; Owner will accept fair offer. 54 Humber in new car condition .. .. .. £ 695 52 Chevrolet owner buying new car .. .. .. £ 1085 52 Dodge in splendid condition .. .. .. £lOB5 54 Renault, owner going overseas, as new .. .. £525 52 Singer 4 seater S.M. sports .. .. .. £550 54 Vauxhall Wyvern, low mileage .. .. .. £725 50 Vanguard .. .. .. .. .. .. £ 465 36 Rover, one owner .. £ 250 Many others to choose from: When buying or selling, call on alan McGillivray 98 Oxford Terrace. ’Phone 62-309.
