WAR MEMORIAL AT HAMILTON

COUNCIL DIVIDED ABOUT INCLUSION OF NAMES (New Zeal ana Press Association) HAMILTON, March 8. The Hamilton City Council last evening decided by seven votes to six that the names on the war memorial wall in the new Hamilton memorial park be confined to the names of servicemen and women who died overseas during the war. The Mayor said it had been suggested that the names of home servicemen who died during the war should be included, but the memorial was a continuation of the First World War memorial and was to commemorate those who had no grave in the country. Other speakers thought there should be two plaques, one for servicemen killed overseas and one for those who died in New Zealand, but it was contended that once it was. opened to homeservicemen, E.P.S. members and others would have some claim also.
