INTER-SCHOOL GAME AT TIMARU
ST. ANDREWS WIN BY FOUR WICKETS
In an exciting finish, St. Andrews College beat Timaru Boys’ High School by four wickets with five minutes to spare in a cricket match played at Timaru on Tuesday and yesterday. Timaru. batting first, was all out for 104 after being live wickets down for 21. Notable w;is a last-wicket partnership between C. McKessar and J. Lindsay, who added 38 ’tins. Bowling for St. Andrews, C. Barnett took seven wickets for 37 runs. At one stage he had taken five wickets for 2 runs off six overs. St. Andrew’s first innings opened poorly and five wickets had been lost for 24 runs, but Barnett and G. T. Barrett put on 31 runs in a sixth wicket partnership to bring the score to 149 for nine at stumps on the first day. Yesterday the score was taken to 192, and St. Andrews had a lead of 88 on the first innings. Most successful Timaru bowler was W. Carn, who took three wickets for 27 runs. At lunch yesterday Timaru. in its second innings, was five down for 61. but a vood recovery in the afternoon brought the innings score to 150. R. R. McKinney scored 65 in an hour, including 10 fours. St. Andrew’s bowler R. B. Frost took six wickets for 45. St. Andrews were left 63 runs to win in 80 minutes and made them for the loss of six wickets, five minutes before stumps. Barnett was best batsman of the innings with 31 not out. Only two Timaru bowlers were used. B. Fowler taking three for 34 and McKinney three for 27.
