ARRANGEMENTS IN CHRISTCHURCH
2} TONS OF FORMS FOR DELIVERY Two and a quarter tons of census forms will be distributed in the Christchurch area, for filling in on census night—April 17. One hundred and thirty-five persons including retired policemen, teachers, and a retired Y.M.C.A. worker will deliver the forms to householders from April 9. For census purposes, the Christchurch area has been divided into 135 sub-areas, compared with Wellington’s 99. The sub-areas extend as far as the Waimakariri river in the north, nearly to Burnham Military Camp in the south, and west as far as Lincoln. The area includes the Lyttelton. Diamond Harbour, and Mount Herbert districts. Big population increases are expected to be noted in the Halswell, Waimairi and Sockburn areas. The contract rate of pay for census form deliverers in the Christchurch area is £3 a day. A car allowance of £1 a day is made, and there is also a bicycle allowance. Census forms will take five days to deliver in the Christchurch area, and six days to collect Each deliverer will be supplied with an elaborate map and an identification card. At 8 a.m. on April 9. they will begin calling on householders. Collection of the census forms will begin on April 18. the day after the census. Three hundred and forty thousand census forms will be available for i distribution to persons in the Christj church area, but this does not mean i that the full number will be delivered. Two different kinds of census forms 1 will be delivered to each household.
