TO BE THE WORLD’S BRIGHTEST BEACONS.—This is what the top of the Empire State Building in New York will look like at night when the proposed beacons are installed above the building’s observatory, 1092ft above the ground. It is expected that, from the air, it will be possible to see the shafts of light 300 miles away, and from ground level as far as 80 miles.
