DEATH SENTENCE IN BRITAIN
POLE FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) Rec. 10 p.m.) SHEFFIELD, Feb. 29. A 29-year-old Pole. Jan Moczygemba, vas sentenced to death at Sheffield tolay for murdering a woman—the first death sentence since the House of Commons voted to abolish capital punishment. T Sentencing him. the Judge said:— ’’Notwithstanding a certain motion m mother place, until there is any actual change in the law. the law remains as it is at the moment, and it is for that reason that I had no choice but to pass the sentence I have. “I thought perhaps it was right to explain that, in case there should be any misunderstanding.’’ Moczygemba had been found guilty of murdering Mrs Mary Hannah, aged 31, the mother of three children.
