Johnny Globe Favoured At Hutt Park Meeting

TROTTING

Johnny Globe will be a firm favourite for the Hutt Park Handicap, the main race and first leg of the double on the final day of the Wellington Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Hutt Park tomorrow. He was unlucky to be beaten by Sue Scott in a similar race last week.

Johnny Globe will meet stronger opposition this week, but, with a reasonable run, he should win. Tre Logan Derby stallion has been in rare form during the last few months, and a win for him would be particularly well received at Hutt Park, where he has been a great favourite with racegoers for several years. Most opposition to the champion may come from Our Kentucky, which is expected to show improvement on his fourth placing last week. The Dillon Hall gelding was having his first start since December when he raced last Saturday, and the run is certain to have improved him. On his day, Our Kentucky is a first-class sprinter, and from 12 yards his chances cannot be overlooked tomorrow.

Brahman, holder of the Hutt Park track record for one mile and a quarter, will be in demand because of his two easy wins on the course last spring. The Gold Bar stallion has disappointed in his last three starts, but he has paced some of his best races on the Wellington club’s course. He will concede starts of up to 36 yards to some smart sprinters, but if he begins smoothly and races right up to his best, he is certain to make a bold showing.

The Light Brigade mare Starbeam will be bracketed with Brahman. She has not won a race this season, but some of her efforts have been useful. If she is back to her best, she would prove a worthy second string for the Belfast trainer, C. S. Donald. Consistent Pacer

Stadium Chief, a member of W. R. Butt’s Templeton team, has been most consistent in recent weeks, his last three starts resulting in placings. He was a fine third in Sue Scott’s race last week after breaking at the start. He showed tremendous speed in the middle stages of the race to be one of the leaders at the home turn. He was far from disgraced when beaten into third place, and if he begins smoothly, he will at least have prospects of being placed again. Sue Scott has been penalised 12 yards for her win last week, but this should not prevent her from making another bold showing. The U. Scott mare has progressed well since being trained at Epsom by C. Paul, and it will be surprising if she fails to race well.

Spring Walk finished on for a fair fifth in her race last week after being well back early. The Light Brigade mare is a first-class sprinter and. if handy to the leaders early, she should take part in the finish.

Patrick Earl showed fair form in the Auckland district before this meeting, but he should be safely held by Johnny Globe. Interest will be taken in the performance of Brava, which will be having his first start since he went amiss some months ago. He is back with J. D. Litten at West Melton, and is reported to have made good progress. He will probably be a candidate for races at Addington later in the month.

Cossack Post may gain a welldeserved win in the second leg of the double, the City Handicap. After being beaten into sixth place in a sprint race early in the day last Saturday, Cossack Post paced a fine race to finish within half a length of Gold Mist over two miles later in the day. A five-year-old stallion by Light Brigade from Betty Wrack, ~he is a brother to a fine trotting mare in Fair Isle. Cossack Post is raced by Messrs E. J. August, V. G. and A. G. Winter, and he is trained at Templeton bv D. McKinley, who is looking after J. B. Pringle’s team while he is campaigning Thelma Globe at the InterDominion Championship meeting at Harold Park. Won at Orari

Marchons, a member of M. Holmes’s Yaldhurst team, graduated from maiden company with an impressive win at Orari last Saturday. Marchons should not be troubled to run out the extra three furlongs in tomorrow’s race, and it will be surprising if he fails to make a bold showing. Bracken Brae, a stablemate of Brahman, won most convincingly at Nelson early last month. He has had a chance to freshen up since then, and if at his best, he may take beating. A three-year-old colt by U. Scott from Brackenette, he is raced by Mr and Mrs C. Goodman, who bought him at a substantial price from the late Sir John McKenzie. Bracken Brae has shown considerable promise, and he should eventually develop worthwhile form.

Bronze Arrow, runner-up to Special Feature in a sprint race on the first day. of the meeting, is .usually most reliable, and he may show up. Johnny Derby, a winner on the first day of the meeting. Morning Glory, and Edinburgh, which also raced well last week, look the pick of the others, but they will not find it easy to catch Cossack Post, Marchons or Bracken Brae. Milldoria, which was narrowly beaten by Loyal Cis in the Army Handicap last week, may win the Carterton Handicap. The Medoro mare, a member of O. E. Nicholas's Kumeu team, will be bracketed with Kortan. and the combination may be favourite. Milldoria has always shown considerable promise, and she should appreciate the sprint journey tomorrow. Kortan disappointed on the first day of the meeting, but is more capable than those efforts suggest.

Anxiety failed on the first day of the meeting after finishing second at his two previous appearances. The Josedale Grattan gelding is a capable sprinter, and is most reliable as a rule. With a good run, he is certain to take part in the finish. Paddy Ducrow, which had recorded two wins and one second placing in three starts before the meeting, broke badly in her race last week, and was not a prospect. She is a good type of pacer, and may make amends tomorrow. Parable has not raced a really bad race for some time, but he is finding it hard to win. He is certain to take part in the finish, and with a little luck may return a dividend. Spiral, which will be bracketed with Black Rose, Adriatic, and Scottish Ensign make most appeal of the others.
