TOURIST HOTEL CORPORATION

BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPOINTED IMMEDIATE ASSUMPTION OF DUTIES (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 29. Membership of the board of the Tourist Hotel Corporation, which will take over control of the 10 Government tourist hotels throughout New Zealand in October, has been announced by the Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts (Mr E. H. Halstead).

The setting-up of a corporation was provided for in legislation passed last year. The five-man directorate of the corporation will be:—Mr Duncan Cox, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, who is a public accountant; Mr A. M. Satterth waite; of D. J. Swan, of Taupo, a hotel manager; Mr L. M. Wright, Mayor of Dunedin, who is a company director; and Mr R. W. Marshall, general manager of the Tourist and Publicity Department. Mr Marshall will be chairman of the Tourist and Publicity Department. Mr Marshall will be chairman of the board in the meantime. “The directors will officially assume duties and responsibilities immediately, so that by October, when control of the Government hotels passes to the corporation, it will be in complete working trim,” said Mr Halstead. “By then, the directors will have had time to make themselves fully conversant with existing conditions, problems, and the future aims for the development of the tourist hotel industry in New Zealand.” Mr Halstead said that he had given long and serious consideration to the selection of the directors. A combination of practical hotel experience and business experience was obviously essential to the corporation. The men who had been invited to join the board fulfilled this requirement admirably. Their acceptance of the Government’s invitation was viewed with pleasure, and was a guarantee of the success of the corporation.
