MANSLAUGHTER VERDICT
AUCKLAND WOMAN FOUND GUILTY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 17. After a retirement of two hours, a jury in the Supreme Court today found Mary Johnson, aged 31, a machinist, guilty of the manslaughter of Annette Te Kiri, aged 26, at Johnson’s home on the night of December 8. Mr Justice Stanton remanded the accused for sentence. At the hearing, which lasted two days and a half, the case for the Crown was conducted by Mr S. A. Cleat and the accused was represented by Mr M. Robinson. The Crown alleged that Te Kiri died as a result of an illegal operation performed by the accused. Accused in evidence maintained that Te Kiri had herself performed the operation.
