Feb. 16. 1 Moslem Negroes from French Afri- I can colonies are being lured to Saudi Arabia under the pretext of making the pilgrimage to Mecca, and sold , there as slaves, the French Union As- i sembly has been told in Versailles. • The assembly acts as a consultative body to the French Government on the affairs of France's overseas territories. A report by the French Ambassador in Jeddah. Saudi Arabia, said that naturalised Saudis of Senegalese ori- | gin organised the traffic among black ■ French citizens in the Niger, Upper Volta, and Udan colonies. The “pilgrims” travelled overland to the Red Sea, crossed in sailing craft, and were arrested for illegal entry on their arrival. A Saudi Arabian merchant then bailed them out and sold them on the slave market. Girls under 15 fetched the equivalent of £2OO to £4OO. The slaves were generally well treated, the report said.
