The “pilgrims” travelled overland to the Red Sea, crossed in sailing craft, and were arrested for illegal entry on their arrival. A Saudi Arabian merchant then bailed them out and sold them on the slave market. Girls under 15 fetched the equivalent of £2OO to £4OO. The slaves were generally well treated, the report said.
