SPRAYING OF PLANES
DELAY ATWHENUAPAI PASSENGERS’ LUGGAGE NOW INCLUDED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. February 15. Pasengers arriving at Whenuapai on overseas aircraft are being subjected to further delays. In addition to the passenger compartment in the aircraft being sprayed under the quarantine regulations. all the luggage and passengers’ baggage are now sprayed and enclosed in the rear of the aircraft for 18 minutes. Although the passengers may leave the aircraft and enter the lounge at the airport, nobody is dealt with bv the airport officials or the customs official! until all the baggage is removed from the aircraft. At the airport tonight the ’TEAL plane from Sydney arrived at 5.40 p.m., but because of the extra 10 minutes needed for the spraying against insect* the first passenger did not reach the customs officials until 6.15 p.m. A quarantine officer said that the spraying of luggage was required under the existing regulations, but until now had not been enforced. Previously only the passengers’ compartment had been sprayed, and any luggage which could be harbouring insects would have passed unnoticed. Now the whole of the aircraft and its luggage were sprayed.
