Mr H. J. Thompson, S.M., who is in charge of the Marlborough, Nelson, and West Coast Magistrate’s Court circuit, will begin seven months’ furlough on March 19. He and Mrs Thompson intend to visit England. The Minister of Justice (Mr J. R. Marshall) has announced that Mr Thompson's place will be taken by Mr W. C. Harley, S.M., of New Plymouth, who would normally have retired yesterday.— <P.A.)

Mr R. J. Lawrence, of the Department of External Affairs. Wellington, has been transferred to New York as New Zealand’s administrative and consular officer there. He will replace Mr M. P. Chapman, who is returning to Wellington to take over Mr Lawrence’s duties in the department. Mr Lawrence, who will be accompanied by his wife and family, will leave Wellington today in the Rangitata for Panama on his way to New York.— (P.A.)

Mr G. H. Christie has been appointed a representative of the Canterbury Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association on the Victory Park Board. He replaces the late Mr G. E. King. Mr W. Newburn, of Otira, has been appointed senior stationmaster at Blenheim. He replaces Mr A. C. M. Gordon, who retired yesterday. The Very Rev. T. H. Roseveare, of St. Heliers Bay, this week celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination in the Presbyterian Church. The Auckland Presbytery extended its congratulations to him. Minister at a number of churches in New Zealand since his ordination in 1906. Mr Roseveare was Moderator of the General Assembly in 1936. He retired from active ministry work in 1950. Mr Ritchie Macdonald. M.P., arrived in Auckland yesterday from a meeting of the council of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association held in Jamaica.—(P.A.)
