FLOATING CRANE HITS BRIDGE

A giant shipbuilding crane, being towed by two tugs, cut into the San Francisco-Oakland Bay bridge yesteri 255 ft crane partly lowered, knifed through the south side of the i bridge s lower deck, cutting the “key ; f trail i serv ice. The bridge is I Ju ft o abo Y, e the water at this point on ' the San Francisco side. Tbe crane had been standing by in ■ the bay, awaiting’ low tide before crossing under the bridge. A heavy I swell sent it up and ahead. The crane boom cut into the steelwork of the i span. i The crane remained entangled in the : bridge steelwork more than an hour before it could be worked free. I Althpugh the train service was dis- I rupted. other traffic on both the lower ' and upper decks of the bridge moved ' without interruption.
