STATEMENT EXPECTED NEXT WEEK

A statement on the progress made by the Tunnel Road Promotion Committee was to be expected in the next week, Mr R. A. Witbrock told the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening. “When the Prime Minister (Mr Holland), spoke at the laying of the foundation stone of the Auckland harbour bridge last week,” said Mr F. W. Freeman. “I understood he referred to the tunnel road and said: ‘lt is on the stocks’.” Mr Freeman then asked Mr Witbrock if he would care to enlarge on his earlier report to the chamber that satisfactory progress was being made.
