PROFESSIONAL WOMEN
DOMINION COUNCIL MEETING (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 2. Presidents and executive officers of clubs affiliated with the New Zealand Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs met recently in Wellington. Miss Challis Hooper (Wellington), the Dominion president, welcomed members from many centres to the Dominion council meeting. Miss Hooper said the keynote for the future should be growth in numbers and influence, and the emphasis should be on development. Membership expansion was an important part of the discussions. It was noted that the Australian federation, which now numbered 2500 members, had set a target of 10,000 in five ydars. Miss D. Pillar, founder of the Levin club, and the federation’s.membership chairman, opened a discussion on the sponsorship of “daughter” clubs and ways of strengthening existing membership. The council instructed the executive to study the problem of equal status and opportunity for women. Support for and Avork with other interested organisations was suggested.
It was announced that Miss D. Raymond (Timaru) would represent the New Zealand federation at the seventh triennial congress of the International Federation in Montreal.
Miss J. Tolfree (Wellington) and Miss M. Webster (Hawera), who represented the New Zealand federation at the silver jubilee meeting of the board of directors of the International Federation at Berne. Switzerland, last year, presented a joint report on the meeting. Miss Hooper has been nominated as a vice-president of the International Federation by the United Federations of Britain.
