YOUNG WIVES’ GROUPS

SUMMER SCHOOL PLANNED AT BISHOPSCOURT

A summer school for representatives from young wives’ groups in the Diocese of Christchurch, under the sponsorship of the Mothers’ Union, will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week at Bishopscourt. It is expected that about 60 delegates from all parts of the diocese will attend the school. The president of the Young Members’ Department is Mrs H. G. Norris and the secretarytreasurer (Mrs D. S. Anderson).

The school will be under the leadership of the Ven. Archdeacon S. E. Woods, who will conduct the devotional services and Bible study, and Mrs S.- E. Woods, who has had considerable experience overseas of young members’ department activities, 'will be in charge of the practical and discussion work. s j Those attending the school will be the guests of the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) and Mrs Warren at Bishopscourt. POODLE CUTS DOG LOVER’S SUGGESTION FOR WINTER FASHION A new deal for French poodles resident in England is sought by an Australian woman visiting England. A letter on the subject published in “The Times” recently was signed Elinor Way, a member of the Sydney branch of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It said: “As a visitor from Australia and feeling the cold, I was struck with the inconsistency of the Englishman’s well-known love of animals, particularly his dog. “The French poodle, so elegant and unusual to an Australian, must feel very cold when his mistress keeps him up to date and in the fashion with his coat styling.

“The most sensitive parts of his body are cropped short, just for a whim of fashion.

“Is not this incongruous with the kindliness of the English temperament towards their dumb friends?

“Could not our poodle breeders and owners be persuaded that it is just as fashionable for poodles to wear their coats long in winter and short in summer?”
