OPPOSITE AND HOPE SO IN FORM

A smart sprint over three furlongs by the Eastern Hack Handicap candidate. Opposite, and a bold effort by Hope So, were features of the track work at Wingatui this morning when the main interest was in horses engaged at the Gore Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. Most of the gallops were held on the plough, wnich provided good going, and overhead conditions were Ideal.
Opposite, with his trainer, R. H. Fraser, in the saddle, sprinted home boldly to run the last three furlongs in 39 3-ssec. Hope So (G. A. Campbell), a candidate for the Balfour Junior Hack, confirmed her smart effort earlier in the week by running the first two furlongs in 25sec. and completing her task over five furlongs in imin ssec. J, D. Pankhurst, who was listed as Hope So’s rider, will now ride Struggle in this event, and no jockey has yet been engaged for the Royal Chief filly.
Delayed <B. J. Anderton) held Prince Ermine (B. P. Kennedy) safely by threequarters of a length, with a similar margin to Birthday News (L. W. Hare) at the end of three furlongs in 41sec. Milling Bay (J. Wells) completed his task over five furlongs by doing the last three in 43sec.
Flying Symbol (D. Dawson) rounded off a mile of pace work by sprinting from the three furlongs in 40 2-ssec. Rex Robe (B. J. Anderton) and Export (B. R. Thomson) were companions over half a mile and. after running the opening furlong in 13sec, finished well to be on terms in 53 2-ssec.
Winning Wave (L. W. Hare) and Landon (M. Houliston) were two of the few horses to gallop on the course proper. They completed their task wejl to finish, on terms at the end of a half a mile in 53 2-ssec, the first furlong in 12 l-ssec. The trestles were on the extreme outside of the track. Winning Wave will be ridden by L. W. Hare in the Balfour Junior Hack Handicap. With the exception of Gallant Peter, the Wingatui candidates for the Canterbury Jockey Club meeting have left foi Riccarton. Royal Pal, which disappointed in his work earlj’ in the week, was not included in D. J. McDonald’s team. H. J. Ford has been engaged to ride Gypsy Tap in the Hornby High-weight at Riccarton.
Gallant Peter (E. Lowry) ran the opening two furlongs in 25 3-ssec, and completed six furlongs in Imin 20sec.
Lyndel’s Choice and Mulberry, which were both ridden by the stable horseman, B. R. Thomson, gave good exhibitions over flights of hurdles. Lyndel’s Choice, which is engaged in the Longford Plate, was then sprinted over two furlongs and hit out boldly.
Gypsy Tap has been scratched from the Gorge Racing Club Handicap, the first leg of the double, and Swayalong has been withdrawn from the Eastern Hack Handicap.
Gay King, which is engaged in the Balfour Junior Hack Handicap, has arrived at Wingatui with his Washdyke trainer, A. Trilford. and will be quartered there* until after the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting.
