CZECH TRADE WITH N.Z.

BUTTER AND WOOL PURCHASES DETAILS OF 1955 TRANSACTIONS (New Zeaiana • Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 25. Czechoslovakia had bought New Zealand butter worth £2,435,000 during 1955, said the Commercial Secretary of the Czechoslovak Consulate-General in Wellington, Mr F. Kotrnek, today. Last year his country had bought, in total, about £3,000,000 worth of primary produce from New Zealand. Figures in the possession of the Czechoslovak Consulate-General in Wellington show that in addition to butter, New Zealand sold to Czechoslovakia wool valued at £439,000 in the first 11 months of 1955. The year’s wool purchases are estimated at about £500,000.

Czechoslovakia also buys New Zealand meat, but few details of the transactions are available, as the purchases are made through London. The chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Products Marketing Commission, Mr W. Marshall, said today that from the current season’s production, New Zealand had sold 7335 tons of butter to Czechoslovakia, of which 5000 tons had been shipped direct to the Continent from the Dominion. The balance had been shipped from London. MINING Clutha Dredge.—The Clutha dredge, operating at Alexandra, for the week ended January 20, worked 130 hours and recovered 125 ounces,of gold.—(P.A.)
