EISENHOWERS PLANS
Early Announcement On Candidacy
WASHINGTON, January 25. President Eisenhower announced today that he probably will undergo his next important medical examinations between February 10 and February 15. He promised that his decision on whether to seek re-election would come soon after that. Answering reporters’ questions at his newspaper conference, the President said flatly that no member of his family had any objection to his running again.
He was lavish in his praise of the Vice-President (Mr Richard Nixon), but said he had not discussed with Mr Nixon what role the Vice-Presi-dent would play in the 1956 campaign —whether or not Mr Eisenhower ran.
Mr Eisenhower suffered a heart attack in September. He said that involved in this problem was the energy and intensity which he had to use, and the zip and zest he had to show in getting something done for the good of the United States.
The President said that his main problem now in trying to make up his mind about his future was the effect of his health on the Presidency and not on himself personally.
