LYTTELTON WATER RESTRICTIONS

BOROUGH COUNCIL AGREES ON ENFORCEMENT Restrictions on the use of water for gardening in Lyttelton and Diamond Harbour are to be enforced. A by-law provides that water for gardens may be used only x between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. This by-law has not been enforced for more than two years. The decision to enforce the by-law was made at a meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council’on Monday evening, on the motion of Cr. W. Morris. Cr. F. Barrett, chairman of the water supply committee, supported the motion.

Opposing the motion, the Mayor (Mr F. G. Briggs) said that gardeners did not waste any more water than did persons washing cars, for example.
