Russians Select Base Site
LONDON, January 24, The Russian Antarctic expedition on the coast of Knox Land has selected a site for its base and is preparing to build a settlement of 24 houses lining a street nearly 200 yards long, according t<# the Russian trade union newspaper “Trud.”
The newspaper said that the base would be known as Mirny, after the ship m which Bellinghausen first explored the Arctic in the eighteenth century.
