FIRES WITHOUT PERMITS

FIVE IN CHRISTCHURCH YESTERDAY Five out of 12 fires in Christchurch yesterday were caused by persons burning rubbish without permits, a senior Christchurch Fire Brigade officer said last evening. Fire engines had to attend each fire. . “We cannot condone this deliberate lighting of rubbish fires by people without special fire permits while the acute fire emergency remains,” he said. “Prosecutions can be taken against these wilful offenders at the discretion of the police and fire brigade.”
