Rebels Killed In North Africa
(Rec. 10 p.m.) ALGIERS, January 22.
Nearly 40 rebels were killed in clashes with French troops yesterday in Algeria and Tunisia, bringing the number killed last week to about 200.
Eleven outlaws were killed in a running battle over the hills lasting nearly till dawn near Oued Amizour in the Constantine region. 10 in an engagement south-west of Nedroma, close to the French Moroccan border, and 12 in a skirmish on Tunisian soil near Gafsa.
Other engagements with Algerian rebels were reported from El Kasur in Constantine and Bouria, in Kabylie. French losses in all engagements were officially given as five killed and eight injured.
