BOBBY CALF FIGURES FOR 1955

The New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association reports the completion of a successful bobby calf season. From 81 district bobby calf pools throughout New Zealand, some 515,000 calves were collected, an increase over the previous season from the same areas of over 30.000 calves.

The gross value of these collections was a record. £1,238,000. Compared with the 1954 season, 1955 showed a lower average export return for the veal and a higher average return for skins and edible offal. “The market disposal of these products followed the same pattern as that for the previous '-year, with the important exception that for the complete season no export restriction or interference was experienced by operators in exploiting world markets {or these products," says the report.
