AMATEUR CLUBS’ TITLES
The three Christchurch amateur cycling clubs held the finals of their 4000-metre individual pursuit titles at English Park on Saturday morning. The riders in the first round had to ride against time Those with the fastest times went on to contest the next rounds, in which one rider rides against another starting from opposite sides of the track. Should any rider be lapped in the first round he is out of the contest, but the other rider must go on to establish a time. The results were:— Christchurch Club.—M. Boers beat R. Treloar. Time, smin 46.8 sec. P. Wylie beat B. A’Court. Time, smin 26.55ec. Final: Wylie beat Boers by lapping him. Run-off for third place: A’Court beat Treloar. Time, 6min ssec. Papanui Club.—R. Bryant beat A. Mahon. Time, smin 49sec. H. Bush beat M. Combe by lapping him. D. Johnson, a ride over. Time. 6min Msec. Semifinal: R. Bryant beat A. Mahon. Time, 6min 6.6 sec. H. Bush beat D. Johnson Time, 6min 10.2 sec. Final: Bush beat Bryant. Time, smin 46.55ec. Run-off for third place: Mahon beat Johnson. Time, 6min 2.4 sec. Avon Club. —R. Fowler beat A. Emmerson. Time, smin 34.65ec. L. Lock beat G. Painter. Time, smin 45.25ec. N. Alexander, a ride over. Time. smin 49sec. Semi-final: L. Lock beat G. Painter. Time, 6min 3.4 sec. R. Fowler beat N. Alexander Time, smin 44.8 sec. Final: Fowler beat Lock. Time, smin 43sec. Run-off for third place: Alexander beat Painter. CHRISTCHURCH NOVICE CLUB The Christchurch Novice Cycling Club held an out and home five-mile road race recently. Ten riders started. M. le Breton, who is a newcomer to the club, won from the six-minute mark in very good time. The results were:—M. le Breton 1, F. Hooper 2, G. Woodgate 3, B. Mugford 4, K. Brown 6. F. Smith 7. Fastest time: K. Brown. 12min 56sec
