Earthquake Rocks Mexican Town
MEXICO CITY, January 8.
A strong earthquake rocked the resort town of Acapulco on the Pacific coast of Mexico early today. First reports said at least 50 persons were injured. The earthquake was recorded at 1.12 a.m. Its intensity was rated 5 on the Mercali scale of 10.
The newspaper "La Prensa.” of Mexico City, says that a building and some houses collapsed. “La Prensa” reported that big cracks opened in some streets. There were several landslides in the town and people ran in panic into the streets.
Fire Damages Monastery.— Damage estimated at many thousands of pounds was caused by fire in t’he east wing of historic Milton Abbey. Dorset, an ancient monastery, last night. Firemen saved the adjoining 15th century Abbott's Hall and Abbey Church, founded in 938. —London, January 9.
