He told reporters that in May. 1945 soon after Germany’s capitulation. Soviet guards took him to a wood near Berlin. They showed him the bodies of Goebbels and his children Helga, Hilde, Helmut, Holde, and Hertha.
All were in wooden coffins, the children in their white nightdresses. ?•« Sa i\ d he lden< tified them without difficulty.
He had also seen a seventh coffin with its lid on lying in a grave. He assumed that it contained the body of Mrs ’ Magda Goebbels.
Shortly before the capitulation, Goebbels and his wife killed themselves after instructing a doctor to administer lethal injections to their children.
