Ten Years . (Rec. 8 p.m.i PARIS. January 4. The following table shows the votes obtained by each of the chief parties in the French election. It also shows the percentage of the total vote each party got, compared with the corresponding' percentages in the General Sections of June, 1951. and November. 1946.

The total of valid votes cast in the 54-3 seats of Metropolitan France was 21,138,159, against 18.850,411 in 1951. Those who did not vote represented only 17.4 per cent, of the registered voters, as against 19.8 per cent, in 1951. Results for two divisions where there have been a recount and a contested result are not expected until tomorrow. This accounts for the incomplete total in the percentage column for 1958. Trends Over 10 Years The Ministry of the Interior today published some statistics on French election trends of the last 10 years. They show: Communists: Small gradual decline lirom 28.6 per cent to 25.6 per cent.). Socialists: Stronger than five years ago. but still below 1946. Popular Republicans: Less than twofifths of their 1946 strength, with another decline this time. Conservatives: Small but steady inti ease. De Gaullists: Practically wiped out. Poujadists: Stronger than the Popuiai Republicans now, but only just over half the voting strength the de Gaullists had in 1951.
