GUEST CONDUCTOR OF N.Z. ORCHESTRA

SIR EUGENE GOOSSENS, OF SYDNEY

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, January 5. Sir Eugene Goossens, conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and one of the most eminent conductors in the English-speaking world, will conduct New Zealand’s National Orchestra in a series of eight concerts next August.

Details have yet to be completed, but it is planned that Sir Eugene Goossens will conduct two concerts in each of the four main centres. Sir Eugene Goossens was born in England, and he had a distinguished career there, conducting most of the leading orchestras before leaving for the United States in 1923 to become conductor of the Rochester (New York) Philharmonic Orchestra.
