Mau Mau Leader May Be Trapped
NAIROBI. January 4. The security authorities believe that Kenya's top Mau Mau terrorist may be pinned down in a swamp near Naivasha. He is “Field Marshal" Deban Kimathi, who is probably among the 60 terrorists who have been pounded by mortar shells and tear-gas bombs for the last six days Two other top-ranking local Mau Mau “generals" Mechanika and Deshon Kibi—are also believed to be in the 20-square-mile swamp. For three successive nights about 40 of the trapped terrorists have tried to pierce the screen of British troops, police, and native Home Guards.
