WOOLSTON RINK HAS FOUR WINS “The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, January 5. Canterbury competitors had a good measure of success on the second day of the fours at the national bowling championships. . m x J E. Latimer (Kia Toa. Timaru) played C. S. Hellyer (Caledonian, Dunedin) in the afternoon, after each four had gained three wins. Latimer won. 26-23 One of the steadiest fours has been the Woolston team skipped by F. B. Sheard. Competing in one of the strongest sections, Sheard’s rink has had four clear-cut wins.

T. O. Chinnery (Edgeware) was beaten, 32-12, in the morning round. His opponent, F. McDonald (Miller s Flat) managed the green better than Chinnery. After an unhappy first day C. D. McGarry’s Christchurch four struck early trouble today with a third successive loss. McGarry and his team are highly regarded, and it was a surprise to see them lose. 35-19. to D. Lonie (Ranfurly). However, McGarry gained his first win in the afternoon. The Temuka four skipped by J. D. Crisp lost a marathon battle with S„ M. Maguinness (Newton), who had started the day without a win. Sixteen ends were killed in the match, which started at 9 a.m. and finished at 1.15 p.m. Maguinness won, 25-20. An Empire Games representative, E. H. Ravenwood, who lost his first two games on Wednesday, today beat R. Longstaff (Blaketown) in the morning, and G. Gibb (Beckenham) in the afternoon.

D. Vaughan (Opawa) suffered his second successive loss in the morning, being beaten by D. H. Wilson (Thorndon), 23-22.

A * win over L. Neilson (Port Chalmers) in the fourth round left Vaughan with a chance to qualify. W. Hampton (Naenae) this morning beat C. A. Keast (Timaru). who then had two wins to his credit. In the afternoon, Hampton beat J. T. Bisman (New Brighton), 31-19.
