Letter Sent To Parents

(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON. January The parents of Lance -Corporal Gordon Hill, aged 22. who Is believed to have been kidnapped by terrorists in Cyprus, have been told by their son’s commanding officer to prepare themselves for the worst.

The parents, Mr and Mrs Alfred Hill, of Ramsden avenue. Langold. near Worksop, Nottinghamshire, have received a letter from their son’s commanding officer saying: “It is not yet certain that he is dead, but I think you should prepare yourself for the worst.”

Mrs Lilian Hill, the soldier’s mother, who is 47. has received official acknowledgement of a letter which she wrofe to the Queen, pleading for her help. Mrs Hill wrote: ‘‘lt appears that my son’s life may be forfeit if the sentence of death oh Michael Karaolis is upheld by your Privy Council.* She begged the Queen to release the Cypriot youth, who was condemned to death for a murder of a Cypriot policeman.

The reply stated that the matter had been referred to the Secretary for War. Lance-Corporal Hill disappeared on -December 19. while on a night patrol near Famagusta.
