LEITHFIELD GALA
PROFIT EXPECTED TO EXCEED £4OO
The net profit from the Leithfield Beach gala, held on December 31, is expected to exceed £4OO. More thqn £l5OO has been raised by galas at the beach during the last four years, and all the money has been spent in providing better amenities. The proceeds of this- year’s gala will go mainly towards providing fire-fighting equipment at the beach. The chairman of the organising committee was Mr F. A. H. Penfold, and the secretary was Mr R. McClure. The sheep-guessing competition (1051 b was won by Mr R. Anderson.
The results of the Highland dancing competition held at the gala were as follows :
Gillie Callum.—Under 10: Maureen Coulter 1, Kaye Donnell 2, Mary Wise 3. Under 16: Brian North 1, Dae Nunn 2, Rosalind Good 3.
Seann Triubhais.—Under 12: Barbara Pascoe 1, Sue Dobbs 2. Wendy Cannon 3. Under 14: Brian North 1, Rosalind Good 2, Sue Dobbs 3.
Highland Fling.—Novice: Joan Havord 1. Gillian Gott 2. Ronald Beazer 3. Under eight: Margaret Strachan 1. Gwenda Wise 2, Joy Stevens 3. Under 10: Joan Havord 1, Maureen Coulter 2, Lynda Marsden 3.
Irish Jig.—Under 12: Sue Dobbs 1. Barbara Pascoe 2. Rhondda Webb 3. Under 16: Brian North and Dae Nunn (equal) 1, SheUagh Chapman 3. Sailor’s Hornpipe—Under 14: Colleen Stevenson 1, Sue Dobbs 2, Rosalind Good 3.
