ADMIRATION FOR UNITED STATES
STATEMENT BY SIR LESLIE MUNRO (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) _ SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 31. Sir Leslie Munro, New Zealand Ambassador to the United States, today expressed admiration and respect for the United States as he prepared to depart for his first home leave in four years. Accompanied by Lady Munro, he will fly tomorrow to Honolulu, where they will spend the New Year holiday. They will resume their flight home on January 2, arriving in Auckland on January 4. In San Francisco today Sir Leslie Munro issued the following statement: ■’My wife- and I are leaving the United States with a profound impression of both the strength and generosity of this great country, and with a lasting jinpfcessian-of. the. vitality -and #iepdliriess of tne American people. On all sides we found great interest in New Zealand.” During his four years as New Zealand Ambassador to the United States Sir Leslie Munro also served as his country’s permanent representative to thfe United Nations. He said that when he arrived in Auckland he would have a more formal report to make on his conclusions concerning the United States, and also would be prepared to discuss the current role of the United Nations in world affairs. Sir Leslie Munro has travelled extensively in the United States during the last* four years. He has made numerous addresses, radio speeches, and television appearances in 26 of the 48 States. He is returning home for the first time in four years for a period of furlough and for consultation with his Government.
